Just wanted to record that it was Hungarian military engineers and military divers of SFOR (NATO Stabilization Force) that rescued all the old stones from the original bridge from the bottom of the River Neretva in 1997. Diving and manoeuvring a large pontoon in a fast flowing current, the Hungarian engineers used specially designed floating crane made from bridging pontoons. The Hungarian military engineers also constructed a drying platform to allow the stones to dry out before being incorporated into the new bridge. It was a great example of military engineering ingenuity and determination to overcome some serious physical challenges.
